Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump with Carryall

I bought this pump with my first child (two years ago). I wanted her to have breast milk but I did not want to actually breast feed (I know it sounds weird) so I wanted a pump that was going to last as I planned on using it daily for months. I pumped every two hours for the first five months and had no problems with it. For whatever reason I began drying up so we switched her to formula. I am due in November and we are purchasing the same pump. It was quiet and I was able to get large amounts in a small amount of time. The cleaning was incredibly simple and it worked well on road trips in the car. I would use the same one but my husband dropped it and broke the internal motor.

This is the only pump I have tried and I have had no problems (luckily). The pump itself works very efficiently - if engorged I can fill a bottle all the way to the top (about 5 ounces) in 10 to 15 minutes. I also like that you have the option of pumping one or both sides at any given time. At home, I nurse on one side and pump the other at the same time, and at work of course I pump both sides at the same time. My 2 complaints are that it is a pain to have to assemble/use/disassemble/wash/dry/reassemble at work and accomplish all this in a short amount of time. Secondly, it is difficult to cram all of the components into the bag as they only seem to really fit one way. I like to keep the insulated milk storage bag on the top so I can access it easily when I'm dropping the baby off to the sitters, and it is a real feat to try to put that bag on top and manage to get the zipper closed on the main bag. I have used it several times a day for over a month and have had no mechanical problems with the machine, so overall I guess I would say this is a good buy. The inconveniences I have experienced are probably just nit-picking more than anything!

I bought this pump, knowing that I would be using it to pump when I go back to work after my maternity leave. I currently use it a few times a week to have some expressed breast milk store in the freezer just in case I need a break. I LOVE it so far! It's easy to use, lightweight, and does the job it's intended to do. The price is unbeatable, compared to Medela, and from what I've seen and heard of some other more expensive brands, it's just as good. I'm confident it will hold up just as well when I'm using it daily in a few weeks!!

I highly recommend this or any Ameda Purely Yours breast pump because they work well, and they are all basically the same pump, with the accessories being slightly different.

I hesitantly purchased the Purely Yours Carryall about 5 months ago, thinking a cheaper pump might not work as well, and just thought it would be a good idea to let others know about my success with it.

I use mine at least twice a day, and it has been great as far as keeping my supply up. It has allowed me to pump enough extra for backups in the freezer, which come in really handy when you need a night off.

This pump is also extremely easy to keep clean, which is probably the best part about it. I couldn't imagine having to constantly clean all the parts like you have to with a lot of other pumps. (I have a friend that complains about cleaning her pump's parts constantly.)

There are also replacement parts you can get for a reasonable price, but so far I haven't had to replace anything, which is good.

The tote bag is nothing special, but it's discrete and does the job just fine. The cooler with extra bottles is a nice little extra, which I use all the time.

All in all, I think this pump should be more than sufficient for just about anyone. I can't imagine what those other $300 and $400 pumps do that this can't.

Save yourself a lot of money and get an Ameda Purely Yours. You can spend even less by just getting the Purely Yours without the bag/bottles, and just use a bag you have around the house.

I purchased this pump after reading many reviews on many different pumps. I chose this one b/c of the price and all of the really good reviews. My sister has the Medela Freestyle and she loves it, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay $380 for that pump. I like this Ameda just fine... although if I were to change one thing - it would be to make it a little quieter. The motor is a little annoying...

This is a great pump! I am a first time mom and I was a little intimidated by the whole idea of pumping... but had to go back to work and I am nursing/feeding 100% breast milk.

The pump is easy to use, clean and carry. The battery power option was a life-saver when the whole town's power was out, and was just as powerful without plugging it in!

I pumped for 8 months exclusively and found this pump to be the best by every standard to every other pump on the market.

My baby was in the NICU for a week and during that time I used this pump every three hours around the clock. It was WONDERFUL!!! So fast and easy, and all wih ZERO discomfort or nipple trama. Truly the best pump I have ever used. Also..during a winter storm our power went out in the middle of the night, but NO WORRIES...because this wonder also runs on batteries with absolutly NO power loss!! It was just as fast,and just as easy. Not to gush, but I really would do yourself a favor and buy this pump.

I did my research before buying a pump - knowing that I was 100% committed to breastfeeding. Don't believe for a minute that Medela or any other manufacturer has anything on this! I used for my 2 boys who were exclusively breastfed (not 1 drop of formula) for 14mos. AND I worked 4x10 hr days full time with each of them. Excellent pump. Used to establish a good supply while on maternity leave. Held up great pumping 2-3x a day at work. Replaced the plastic parts(tubing, etc - just out of good measure) with the second child - which was very reasonable to do and the pump worked as good second time as first. (I plan on using it a third time :-)) Cleaning is a breeze and there is a lot of peace of mind knowing that the milk isn't going to back up into the tubing/motor like some other pumps out there. The pump is very easy to use and comfortable. Don't hesitate - this IS the best pump out there. You CAN breastfeed exclusively and return to work!

I was introduced to Ameda by the hospital when I had my first child and loved the pump. The pump I bought (which was another brand) did not hold a candle to the Ameda! I purchased the Purely Yours when I was preggo with my second child and am still using it now with my third! It has held up over the last 4 years and is easy to tote around and use anywhere. The ability to vary your suction and cycle time helps greatly since it is easier to mimic your child's patterns. Hands down the best pump I have ever own and used! You will not be sorry with it!

I really like the Ameda breast pumping system. I was started on it when my son was in the hospital for 9 days after he was born and have been using it since. As an occupational health nurse, I was able to try the Medela pumping system which I found much harder to clean. I found that there was much less risk of having the milk enter into the pumping system witht he Ameda.

I have used my Purely Yours pump in a car and in many other situations during the 8 and 1/2 months of pumping. It si a lightwieght machine with a good amount of power. I take it back and forth to work with me, as well as when I travel.

I love the control and comfort that I have with the length of the pumping cycle and the strength of the suction. I adjust the levels as I have different needs.

When I was looking for a pump, my top choices were Medela Pump In Style and Ameda Purely Yours. They're both comparable in features and reputation, and I chose Ameda for two reasons:

1. Breast milk is better protected from exposure to the environment. The Purely Yours pump accomplishes this by using a patented diaphragm to create a barrier, which protects the pump and tubing from contamination. (Ameda has obtained FDA clearance to make this claim.)

2. It's cheaper than the Medela.

Having used this pump for almost 4 months, I confidently say that I absolutely love it. Here are the reasons why:

1. Milk goes directly from the horns (the parts that go to the breast) to the bottle (through a small valve). I like the fact that milk does not go through any tubes or the pump body. There are only 3 parts to wash (the horns, the valve, and the diaphragm), and they wash very easily.

2. It's powerful, yet comfortable. In fact, this pump was easier on my nipples than my baby. Sometimes, my nipples got really sore from breastfeeding and I pumped and fed the baby with expressed milk to give my nipples a break.

3. Very portable. I've taken this pump everywhere - to parties, work, on trips, shopping. It takes 6 AA batteries, which is very convenient, because they're easily available.

4. Reasonably fast. It takes about 15-20 minutes to pump each breast until the second letdown. Unfortunately, I haven't yet learned how to pump both breasts at the same time. So it takes about 30-40 minutes to pump both breasts. I hope to one day master the two-breasts-at-a-time technique to cut the pumping time in half.

5. Batteries last for 3-4 40-minute pumping sessions. I consider that quite long. This pump has a powerful motor, and I would be happy if I would get even 1 session. I usually pump at home where I have an outlet and use the batteries only occasionally. But if you plan to use this pump on the road most of the time, get rechargable batteries.

6. Accepts any standard size bottle. I wanted to use the glass bottles, and used Evenflo Classic Glass bottles without a problem.

7. Cheaper and lighter than the Medela Pump In Style (my other top choice)

There are two things that I do not like about this pump. They are:

1. The car charger adapter that I got does not fit into any car charger! I somehow was able to get it into the Toyota Corolla charger, but almost took the dashboard out when I was trying to get the adapter out. Perhaps I have a faulty adapter, but I've never tried again.

2. The horns break if used heavily. The part that screws onto the bottle cracks, and then breaks. This happened to both horns, and I had to get replacement horns ((...)).

Despite the car charger adapter issue and the breaking horns, I love this pump. It helps me maintain my milk supply and build a freezer stash for emergency use. I would recommend this to anyone.
